ABBEY ROAD TRIP: A live musical tribute to the legacy of The Beatles.
Jason’s love for The Beatles started when he was 7 years old. Developing a passion for music and a desire to play guitar at a young age he asked his father who his favorite band was. His father told him The Beatles and gave Jason his old cassette of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band. That was the beginning of his lifelong fascination with the group. “I still have that tape all these years later, but I am afraid to even try to play it I wore it so thin. I once listened to that tape nonstop on a road trip from Dallas to New York and back”! After playing in many music groups ranging from Jazz to Rock to Punk and Classical, Jason never lost his deep admiration of The Beatles and always seemed to come back to their music. “Eventually I decided I wanted to play their music exclusively because I never tire of it. Their catalogue is so varied – from “She Loves You” to “A Day In The Life” to “Revolution”. That’s like the entire blueprint of pop/rock music laid out by one band. There is always something new you catch even on a song you’ve heard a million times. The ultimate challenge is nailing the details and trying to recreate songs as close as possible to the original. I also always feel like I am doing a little good for the world when I play a Beatles song. If you can spread their message of love and peace even to just a few people at a time it can create a small ripple that can eventually become a huge wave.” Jason also thinks of his father when he plays. “He passed away when I was young and listening to The Beatles with him is one of my fondest memories. Every time I play a Beatles song, I like to think I am honoring his memory and maybe he is looking down with a smile.”
Being a Beatles fan from the age of 5, it's safe to say they have been Russell's favorite band his entire life. His grandparents first introduced him to The Beatles through a VHS tape of the movie “Yellow Submarine”, used to keep him still while they cleaned. From that day forward, he constantly asked questions about them and wanted to hear more music. Fast forward to 2009, the first time he even heard of Beatles tribute bands was seeing a commercial for something called “Rain- A Tribute to The Beatles”. He was fascinated. His grandpa ended up taking him to see Rain at The Music Hall in Fair Park in Dallas, Texas and he had a blast. This was back when the line up consisted of Steve Landes, Joey Curatolo, Joe Bithorn and Ralph Castelli - for you super fans out there. He was intrigued by the idea of dressing up like them and playing their music. Paul was always his favorite, mainly because he held his guitar differently than the rest so he stuck out. In 2015, while seeing a local cover band called “A Hard Night’s Day”, he was called on stage during their encore of “Twist and Shout”, because through the entire show Russell was dressed like a Beatle and miming along with his Rockband controller that was modeled after Paul’s Höfner, thus coining him the nickname “Rockband Russell” by the bands bassist, Trey Garrity. Trey and Russell continued having an amazing friendship, especially after he started actually learning the bass. Russell got his first bass in December of 2017, it was an Ignition Series Bass. It wasn’t the most accurate, but for learning to play left handed, it was perfect. That same year he started a tribute band called “The Bonnies” with Cody Harrison on guitar and John Bower on drums. He felt like it was really gonna go somewhere, but sadly the group officially disbanded in 2019. Despite that, being in The Bonnies opened up a lot of doors. He was eventually contacted by “Britain’s Finest” and flown out to meet and rehearse with them. Trey introduced Russell to a guy he was giving lessons to who was learning the Lennon parts. He was exactly who Russell was looking for...
Although Sam's primary instrument is the guitar, he has always been fond of all the instruments utilized in The Beatles' music. Since a young age, he became a devoted fan of the band and was fascinated by how their songs were created, as well as how the various instruments collaborated to produce such exceptional works of art. Consequently, he is thrilled at the prospect of playing with Abbey Road Trip. In addition to this, Sam teaches young musicians at the School of Rock in Frisco during his leisure time. He expresses that he thoroughly enjoys spending time with both the band members and crew, describing them as excellent and enjoyable companions.
Growing up in a musical family, Dean was introduced to the Beatles at a very early age. Some of Dean’s earliest memories include listening to tracks from Revolver and Abby Road and watching the movies “Help!” and “Yellow Submarine.” While he grew up, Dean took a shine to playing music, He began with the guitar during middle school and was making okay progress but was seeing some difficulty. Then, after the encouragement of some relatives, Dean tried the drums and enjoyed them immensely. As soon as he got his first drum set he practiced constantly to several Beatles songs. His favorite songs to play were the faster tunes such as “Here Comes the Sun” and “She Loves You.” Once Dean started getting good on the drums he returned to the guitar and was able to start honing that instrument as well. Dean now has been furthering his craft in playing drums for over ten years, he is the resident drummer at his church and has an internet drumming show called “Cosplay Drumplay.” All throughout his life, Dean took several opportunities in perform in front of audiences music and as well in theatre. On top of drumming, Dean is an actor as well as a singer and has written several plays and variety shows. While he has performed in several musical acts throughout the years, this will be the first Beatles tribute Dean has been a part of and he’s incredibly excited! “I can’t wait to pay tribute to the band that made me want to become a musician and to spread peace and love to everyone out there!”
